1) What project was your most challenging and why?
The most challenging project for me was my figure project. For this project I chose to make a shark figure, and a separate piece made to look like the ocean’s surface. This project was difficult for me because shaping hollow figures is a tedious skill. It took me a long time to finally be satisfied with the shark’s appearance. Another problem when doing this project was melting the glass for the ocean surface part. It took three separate attempts in the kiln to melt the glass correctly. In the end I decided to just glue on glass sharks to get a choppy wave effect. Even though this was my most difficult piece it is also one I am most proud of.

7) What is art? Art is the free flowing expression of one’s mind through different styles and mediums. Defining the word art exactly is equal to defining the word the. It is impossible to pinpoint all the different variations of what art can be. For example, in this sculpture class I have made art out of clay, paint, cardboard, sticks, rocks, glass, and even books. Art is limitless, and in some cases I believe even decorations can be art. The word decoration seems to be below art. When in reality decorating itself is an art. In conclusion art is infinite, and it is truly up to the artist to test its limits. |
8) What is a medium you wish you worked more with and why?
Overall my favorite medium remains to be clay. The options available when using clay are countless. I really wish many of my clay projects could have turned out differently due to the fact I rushed through them, or messed them up with glazing or paint. Another reason I wish I had worked with clay more is because I wanted to become better at spinning on the wheel. I found this technique most frustrating and fun when I tried it. I might have been able to master these methods if I had worked with clay more. (even though I worked with clay a lot)
